Here below is the part of news from Dutch food council.

In April 2026 we will come with a developed Disk of Five. In it, all new scientific insights come together to create a healthy, sustainable and safe diet that gives you all the necessary nutrients and energy.

What changes to the guidelines of the Health Council?

Inthe new recommendations of the Health Council, we notice 2 changes in particular:

  • From the guideline 'eat legumes every week' it goes to: 'eat 250 grams of legumes every week (prepared)'.

  • From 'relit red and processed meat' it goes to: 'don't eat more than 200 grams of red meat per week' and 'as little processed meat as possible'.

In general, the Health Council emphasizes more plant-based food in the new guidelines, for the health of people and the planet. Guidelines on other product groups, such as cereal products, fruit and vegetables, will follow later. If necessary, we will incorporate these guidelines into the Disc of Five.

What does this mean for the Disc of Five?

The Schijf van Vijf remains your guide to healthy, sustainable and safe eating. At the moment, the Disc of Five already offers space to eat a lot of plant-based food. We will incorporate the new recommendations of the Health Council into the Disc of Five, which is done within the further development that is now underway.

We think it is important to include sustainability and food safety even more integrally in the Disc of Five. There is now more scientific data available than ever in these areas. The fact that we, in collaboration with RIVM, combine health, sustainability and food safety so far is unique in the world.

What is certain: the Disc of Five remains recognizable with five boxes. Soon we will show you even better what all the possibilities are to eat with the Disc of Five. That makes it easier to make choices that suit your way of life.
